MAIZY GRACE | NEWBORN

The last nine months have been the slowest of my life. I thought by your third kid, pregnancies were supposed to fly by. Unfortunately, my husband likes to say that I’m the “opposite in everything” and this proved true, once again, for our third child. Maizy’s pregnancy was painfully slow and painfully…well…painful. Little girl gave me a run for my money, but we thank God that’s she’s finally here, happy, and healthy.

On August 30, we woke up at 3:30 a.m. and headed to the hospital to meet our baby girl. I don’t know if getting to hold your newborn for the first time could ever get old. All of the love and relief a human could possibly feel at one time are infinitely multiplied the moment they lay that brand new life on your chest. You sure do learn a lot about God when you become a parent. To think that my creator loves me even more than I love this tiny human in front of me is mind-blowing.

Speaking of love, let me tell you, Maizy’s big brother and sister are absolutely enthralled with her. She is never short on cuddles or kisses and mommy is never short on helping hands. It’s been a blessing to see our family grow and introduce Maizy to her new home and life.

A lot of people have asked about her name, so I’ll just lay it out for ya:

Our maternal grandmothers are named Evalee and Clara. These two ladies were the inspiration for our first daughter’s name, Evelyn Claire. Our paternal grandmothers are named Mary and Grace. For years and years, I had dreamed of having two daughters and naming the second one Merritt Grace. Maizy was nowhere on my radar at all. No idea where I heard it, don’t know where it came from, but one night, I was asleep and I kept getting woken up by a voice in my ear repeatedly saying, “Maizy with a ‘z’”.

Over and over and over the entire night. I’m not saying it was anything supernatural, but let me tell ya, it was bizarre. So I did some research and found that Maisie was a Scottish derivative of Mary and Margaret. But why the “z”? Well, I didn’t want it to be pronounced “Macey”. I wanted that strong “z” sound, but I didn’t really know why other than that’s what the mysterious dream voice told me.

So Josh and I talked it over and at first, we decided that Maizy Grace sounded too much like “Amazing Grace”, so we went back to the drawing board for a second. Fast-forward to after she’s here and Josh is like, “actually, I really like that it sounds like ‘Amazing Grace’”.

And so Maizy (with a ‘z’) Grace it was! We got to honor all of our grandmothers and also put in a little nod to our God’s amazing grace in our lives. And yes, Josh has absolutely sang Uh-Maizy Grace how sweet the sound several times since she’s been born. We’ll never hear that song the same again!

Funny how many ways these kiddos can change your life.

Thank you all for your prayers and love for our family! We’re having the best time bonding with our baby and trying to soak in every moment with all three of our kiddos.

Side note: I think I'm going to add detail shots to all of my newborn sessions from now on. I spread out the swaddle she wore in the hospital, laid out all three of our bracelets, her first little hat, her footprint, her blood pressure cuff, the bow she wore, her sign, and some of the gorgeous flowers we got from Mack-Mae Flower Farm and went crazy. I love how they turned out.
